Re: Information on SX-EX60 organ

Hi Mike,

I played an EX60 for many years in a social club for cabaret and dance, they are great organs.

You are right that there are not many resources for EX60 on the websites yet (or indeed anywhere). I launched the sites just over two years ago and we're adding as much info as we can as fast as possible. This is easier for the newer models, particularly when I own the model or one of our contributing Members does.

As you're a VIP I'll move this model to a higher priority and add some info and resources soon. I'll also be writing about it in the Magazine that will post out to you later in the year.

A couple of questions for you:

Do you have the external disk drive?

Do you hook your organ up to your computer using MIDI (or are you interested in that)?

Best wishes,
Mike

Re: Information on SX-EX60 organ

I just joined this website this week and have been poking around to see what is here and ran across your message. I have a Technics keyboard myself and have had a number of Technics organs--I have had both a SX55 and SX 66 along with some later series models. I now have a G100. There is little to nothing on the web about Techics organ that I could find; I was happy to run across this site. I am not sure how much is available here for the SX 60 (I am not familiar with that model however I do have some disks (I think) that work on the %% and 66. If you are interested (and I can find them). I would be happy to share them you and this website.

Hi UncleCharlie411,

I hope you're enjoying the websites. As I mentioned, we're only just over two years old and before launching the websites there was next to nothing available for Technics instruments. You can read a bit more about all that in the Blog. (Note to myself I must update the Blog soon!)

We're grateful for any resources you are able to share for these older models because they are so scarce (saying that, I have been gathering for years and some things are just a matter of me finding enough time to add them).

To share any info, files etc with us please reply to one of my newsletters to let me know what you have and I'll let you know how to transfer the files to me. If you need to post disks I'll give you my address and pay for the postage.

As regards the G100, what a fantastic organ that is! It is compatible with all of the GA resources on the websites so there are thousands of Styles and files available for you, just use the GA Series files.

Best wishes,
Mike

Re: Information on SX-EX60 organ

Thanks for the response. I have a place to put a memory card but I do not have a memory card. I believe there is a disc unit that can be attached to the organ and I am looking at sourcing one somehow, although I do not intend spending a fortune on it as I am sure it is possible to use the present analogue interfaces just for recording music! I am interested in getting involved with midi files. I got a fairly good condition User Manual with the organ when I bought it which I suppose I could scan in and post on the website sometime. The organ itself was like new and belonged to (another) old gentleman who had two organs at his home and was going to move into a residential home. He was limited to only one organ there so handed my one over to his friendly next door neighbours. None of them could play so they put it on Ebay! It is the best £78 I have ever spent. I have always played the piano a little, but got roped in as a stand in organist at my church during a period of illness by the usual organist! I needed a double keyboard to practice on, hence the EX60! I must admit the piano gets even less use these days as I actually prefer the EX60! It really is more like an entertainment centre!

Re: Information on SX-EX60 organ

Hi Mike,

That sounds like a bargain and exactly what you needed! The disk recorders for your model work electronically, so they play back the actual organ sounds and functions rather than like an audio recording. However, they are incredibly hard to get as are the memory cards. Frankly, I don't think you would get much use from either of those. They would cost a lot and are not very useful for you. And yes, recording audio is easy from this model.

I have some very old recordings of me playing one that I'll upload sometime. My son has to do his audio magic on them to reduce the hiss as they were recorded live at a gig on some old cassette tape machine. Oh and I'm not saying they are good but they will be a demo of the sound. Hopefully you can send some of your recordings in too!

The EX60 User Manual and MIDI Manual are already in the Members Area.

The EX60 pre-dates General Midi, however, I'll be publishing a series of articles about linking it to a computer and use virtual instruments to make it sound like a Hammond with drawbars or a Church organ for instance along with some other tips and hints. The articles will be based on my EX30 so will be very easy to translate to your EX60.

If you read music, take a look at the Technics in Concert downloadable book in the VIP section of the Members area. That book is very pertinent to your model.

Best wishes,
Mike
