Hi Mike,
I became a new VIP member yesterday.
I own an Apple Mac Mini computer and am having problems transferring songs to my KN via floppy disk.
When I load the disk on my keyboard, all I get are blank spaces from 1-20, although did manage to ping song 16 (cool beat, BEA-1).
Now, I know the data is being copied to the floppy disk and have even reduced downloads to 5 songs, but all to no avail.
Would it be possible to consult your in-house resident Apple Mac expert Alex and advise me correct procedure?
It has occurred to me maybe the COOL STYLES are meant to be copied direct to an SD from a PC.
Your help would be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks,
Harry Hooker (theharys)

Re: COPYING COOL STYLES TO KN7000
Hi Harry,
Welcome to the club you're going to love these particular styles I'm sure!
Ok, this query requires some explanation. I suspect that you have downloaded the SD version of the styles instead of the floppy version but regardless of whether you have done that bear with me whilst I explain...
COOL STYLES FOR FLOPPY DISKS
This version of Cool Styles Series is for floppy disks and the Styles are NUMBERED accordingly:
COOL STYLES FOR FLOPPY DISK
Each folder within the downloaded zip = one floppy disk's worth of Styles.
Drag and drop the contents of one folder into your floppy drive.
These versions of the Styles are created on a KN1400 in order to maintain wide compatibility between several Technics instruments (the ones listed on the graphic). This includes your KN7000.
However, this version of the Cool Styles Series doesn't contain the Song names in the panel memories. In order to use those you need the SD Card version:
In the same ZIP file, however, there are also some All Custom Styles. These are for KN7000, KN2600 and KN2400. These are numbered for floppy drives too. They are in the directory called "COOL ALL CUSTOM STYLES for KN7000 and Compatible". They will load into your Rhythm Group Memory and will then appear in One Touch Play and Music Stylist (Custom Stylist). They don't contain every one of the Styles yet. Again, drag and drop the five files you find in that directory onto a floppy. You will see three Songs on your KN7000. 01 and 06 are All Custom Styles. 02 is to Re-set your Home Page back to normal (so that the Cool Styles Graphic is removed from your KN7000, should you so wish).
COOL STYLES FOR SD CARD
This version of Cool Styles Series is for SD Cards and the Styles are NAMED accordingly:
COOL STYLES FOR SD CARD
Now I must admit that I hadn't thought about Mac users here which is remiss of me. So I'll upload a version for Mac users later this evening. You will then be able to drag the Mac version onto an SD Card. I'll add some instructions here.
I think that the reason you have been able to load the 'number 16' that you mentioned above is that it happens to be a '16 beat'. So (on the SD Card version) the files begin with the digits 16... and that means that it will load off a floppy disk, by accident!
I hope that helps to explain. I'll post more info here later and if you happen to be playing before that then you can make use of the Floppy version as I outlined above.
Best wishes,
Mike

Re: COPYING COOL STYLES TO KN7000
Hi Harry,
I've now added a Mac version for SD Card on this page:
COOL STYLES SERIES FOR SD CARD
To use this:
1 - Format an SD Card in your KN7000
2 - Put your SD Card in your Mac
3 - Download the ZIP file called "COOL STYLES SERIES.ZIP" on the linked page above (obviously you have to be logged in to see that file)
4 - Drag and drop the "PRIVATE" directory out of the ZIP file and into your SD Card
The card can then be used in your KN7000 (or KN2600 for those that have them).
The card also contains quite a number of new Sounds and other files relating to the Cool Styles Series that are not available in the Floppy disk version yet.
Please note that there are some empty directories.
You will notice some duplicate directories. One set of directories contains the styles with the Music Style Arranger set to automatically change the Panel Memories as you play. The duplicate directories contain the styles with the Music Style Arranger set to "Rhythm and Sound". That's the only difference.
There's also a set of Home Pages to play with and there's a directory with the All Custom Styles, so that you can try out the One Touch Play and Custom Stylists.
Please note that for this Mac version you will lose any edits when I release the next update unless you use a fresh SD Card for that update. So, if you edit and save any of these Styles and wish to keep them later, you should save them on a different SD Card or onto a floppy disk.
I'm not able to test this card at present because "Mr Mac" (Alex) is away for a few days plus I don't have my KN7000 set up but I'm 99.9999% certain that it will be fine for you.
Best wishes,
Mike

Re: COPYING COOL STYLES TO KN7000
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your prompt reply and advice.
Have carefully followed your instructions above but still can't load the KN7000 from the SD card.
Tried initialising SD, but still no luck.
Maybe Dr. Mac could sort me out when he returns home !
Copying from Mac to KN via floppy disk successful, but time intensive.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
Harry

Re: COPYING COOL STYLES TO KN7000
Hi Harry,
We can't quite understand why this is not working for you. We've both tried it on Windows and Mac and it works for us. I must be missing something and will have a think around the issue. Alex will have another try at it on Monday too (he has his Grade 7 guitar exam tomorrow so is practising hard).
Best wishes,
Mike

Re: Re: COPYING COOL STYLES TO KN7000 VIA SD CARD
Hi Mike,
A member has kindly sent me 3 pages of instructions re the above ( for WINDOWS) - which you may already have/know of.
However, he did make the comment:
'Your MAC will have similar applications, the important thing is the structure of the SD card.'
I could forward the 3 pages to you if any help, but need your email address first if OK.
Must admit, I'm on a steep learning curve and appreciate any advice to steer me in the right direction !!
Many thanks,
Harry

Re: COPYING COOL STYLES TO KN7000
Hi Harry,
I'm pretty sure I have those pages, I should think they are from Willum's website.
Alex will connect to you via Teamviewer from his Mac and show you how to set up your SD Card. If you have more than one SD Card handy that woudl be good.
Please note that your card must be an SD Secure card of 1Gb or less, otherwise it is not going to work in any circumstances.
Simply reply to one of my newsletters in order to contact me by email. Let us know when you would like to connect with Teamviewer and we'll send you instructions.
Best wishes,
Mike
