Is there any way to make a "one song" medley in the sequencer by "copying and pasting" parts of more than one song that are already saved on the SD card? I can not find any menu item that allows that. I've even tried to convert the songs to .mid format and then copy and paste but there's no menu feature for that either - at least non that I can find.

Hi squeezebox,
You can load up to 10 songs in the sequencer. So, load the songs you want and then you are able to copy a range of bars from one song to another.
I don't have my manual with me to give you more detail, sending this from my phone.

Thanks for the quick response!
That's exactly what I want to do, but I find no menu that provides the ability to copy a range of measures from one song to another within the sequencer. If you (or someone else) can explain how to do that, I'd appreciate that.

Hi Squeezebox,
I'm back home now and I've had a chance to look in the manual. I did what you're trying to do a few years ago but looking at the manual I've remembered it wasn't so simple...
I'm assuming that the built-in Song Medley function isn't what you want and that you're trying to make a medley from a couple of Songs into one arrangement in a single Technics Song.
Also, you'll have to have some tracks spare. Let's be simplistic and take two Songs as an example. Let's say that they are both 32 bars long and each has eight tracks.
Load the files into Song 1 and 2 in the sequencer.
In Song 1, ensure that tracks 1 to 8 are in use. In Song 2, ensure that tracks 9 to 16 are in use. You might have to copy tracks in order to do that (and then clear the original track you copied from).
Because Song 1 is 32 bars long, we'll insert 32 bars into the beginning of Song 2.
Now copy tracks 9 to 16 from Song 2 to Song 1 (Page 101 in the Manual).
So, in Song 1 you now have 16 tracks. Tracks 1 to 8 will play for the first 32 bars and then tracks 9 to 16 will play back for the next 32.
No doubt there will be more editing to do and you'll then want to start merging tracks together. You might insert a few blank bars between the tunes in order to record a transition between one piece and the next for example. Having done all that, you should be able to repeat the process for the next Song in your medley, if there are several Songs you want in one medley.
Save regularly, every step of the way, and then you'll be able to revert if something goes wrong.
I've been simplistic here to try to explain the principle so you'll need to look things up in the manual but if you get stuck post again and I'll help in more detail when I can.
You could do all of the above in a midi editor on your PC which might be easier, it depends how many tracks you have and how complex your songs are... you'll be counting bars and writing a few notes before you start either way

Amendment - I've realised that it doesn't matter what tracks you are copying to and from (between songs) so you don't need to use tracks 1 to 8 for song 1 and 9 to 16 for song 2. When you copy tracks between songs it also allows you to state the source and destination track at will. So I overcomplicated things there. You just need to ensure that you have some free destination tracks.

That's what I thought. I know you can copy tracks from one song to another on the sequencer but you can't copy measures that way. If each song has many tracks - say 14 and you can't combine them because they are each different instruments, then you don't have many available (open) tracks and there's no way to do what I want to do, correct?

Almost correct. Within a track you can change the instrument anytime you want. So it is perfectly possible to merge tracks that have two different instruments. The merged track will play on a single instrument but then you can go in and edit it, to insert an instrument change. This will work provided that the two instruments are not playing at the same time.
So, taking my example, let's say your lead instrument in track 1 of song 1 is a sax and it plays for 32 bars. Then, your lead instrument in track 1 of song 2 is a trumpet that plays for 32 bars (so you'll need to insert 32 blank bars at the start of this track). You can copy track 1 of song 2 to (say) track 9 of song 1. Then you can merge tracks 9 and 1. Then you can edit track 1 to insert an instrument change from sax to trumpet at the beginning of bar 33.
Because the tunes play consecutively in a medley, you will always be able to make this work, provided that you have one spare track in the destination Song.
I hope that makes some sense.

Hmmm -- that does make sense. It's a lot of work though when I'm trying to make a 5-song medley into one song and each of the original songs has about 14 tracks. I'll give it a try and see how it goes.

Not a problem. And these things don't take so long when you get down to it.
Another, perhaps better way is to copy the track you want between Songs and then use 'measure copy' to move the bars you want between tracks and measures at the same time. This is probably better than 'merge' thinking about it....
So. Copy Track 1 of Song 2 to Track 16 (or any blank track) in Song 1. Then Measure Copy bars 1 to 32 of Track 16 to measure 33 of Track 1. You might find that the instrument change gets copied with it too.
Repeat for the other Tracks of Song 2.
I reckon it would take you 20 mins to make a medley of two songs, something like that and it might take you 40 mins to make a medley of four or five songs. These things get quicker when you're doing the same procedure over and over.... For example, I can 'type' song titles really quickly now whereas it used to take me ages to get around the alphanumeric interface. Having done it for hundreds of Styles I can now do it really quickly.

Oops. Sorry to bother you but now another problem. I can't start the process of merging these songs into one medley without having them all loaded on the same sequencer load, correct? In my case, all of these songs are in separate files on the SD card. So how do I get them into song 1, then song 2, song 3, etc on the same sequencer file?

No probs.
The Songs have to be saved in Technics format on the SD Card.
Then, on the SD Load screen, go to Page 3. Here you can load individual Sequencer Songs into the Song 'slots' of the sequencer.

Bear in mind that you can only have one set of Panel Memories, Composer Styles etc between the ten Songs, so you might have to copy Panel memories to other slots too, in the interim. Once you have your Medley as a single piece then you'll be loading it with its set of Panel Memories, if you're using them. For Composer Memories, convert them to Custom Styles in the Rhythm Memory if necessary, so that you can have 20 different ones.

What am I missing? On my page 3 of the SD Load screen there is no menu item to load individual Sequencer Songs into the Song "slots" of the sequencer.

On the Load Screen...
on Page 1, find the Song you want to load a Sequencer from.
Go to Page 3.
Change to Sequencer mode.
You should then be able to load it into a slot.

There is no Sequencer mode on Page 3 - only "Panel Memory", Composer", "Sound Memory", and "Effect Memory" modes.
However, If I convert the songs to .mid files, save them on a floppy disk and then load them from the disk to the sequencer, I have the option to place them in any of the 10 slots in the sequencer. But they must be .mid files to do that as near as I can tell. No?

Great! It seems to work - but it appears you must save and load on the floppy disk - NOT the SD card. The menus aren't the same when loading from the disk vs the SD card, no?

It should be the same on SD Card, just that KN5000 didn't have an SD Card. I'll test when I get time (that's a little joke to myself, I never get time but I try!)
