Hey folks does anyone know how to set up my kn7000 as a midi instrument in Sonar X3.
I have placed this ini. file in the program and when I bring in a midi track into a project I can't get it to work I need a step by step video or document to help me HELP......

Hi Terry123,
Read the following forum post and then let us know how you're getting on with MIDI in a more general sense then we'll take a look at how to get it talking to Sonar properly. I don't use Sonar but the principles are the same in any DAW. Let's make sure that you have MIDI in and out running properly first though. Let us know whether you are connecting via USB or a MIDI interface etc. and all working without Sonar running.

My soanr sees the keyboard in preferences midi devises, I know this is a mapping issue somehow. Anyway I have a midi track on my soanr right now when I hit a note on my keyboards I see in the meter that something is trying to happen I get a little green thing going on top and bottom but no sound or recording at all. I really need help with this Mike I tried to download the cd but could not I have nothing drivers installed on my windows 7 Ultimate except for what windows found. which seems to recognize my Keyboards so I know that much is working ......

Also I went to the link you put up and it was no help. In my Keyboard under programs midi and computer connection there is nothing on PC as slave would that be interface in the kn7000...

Hi Terry123.
We'll get you working but this is more complex than it appears. You will have to go through step by step with me. Also to let you know, other than weekends, I can only respond to you evenings UK time because I work full time, so following a response to one of your posts such as this one, I'll be checking for your responses for a few hours then it will be the next day before I'm back online.
1 - Windows will recognise your keyboard as an audio device but it will not recognise the MIDI components unless you install the drivers that you can download on this site or install from your original CD.

Follow these instructions for Installing KN7000 Drivers on Windows
So, the first thing you need to do is install the drivers (you have to be logged in to download them).
2 - Because Windows has recognised the Panasonic Musical Instrument, Sonar will find it. It will let you play audio files through the USB connection to the keyboard and it will let you record audio into Sonar. That is why you're seeing the green thing going up and down. It is audio, not MIDI.
So, the second thing you need to do is forget about Sonar, don't have it running, get MIDI in and out working using the free MIDI player using the instructions in the post I referred you to earlier (I've now pasted hem below so that you don't have to flick back and forth.
You must get MIDI working with Windows before we tackle the link to Sonar because the link to Sonar is not as simple as it seems on the surface, it is not plug and play by any means.
After installing the drivers and re-starting your computer, plug in the USB cable and then double click a MIDI file on your PC and see if it plays on your keyboard, let's make sure we have some kind of connection even if it is outwards.
If it does not, install the Falcosoft Soundfont MIDI player, try the MIDI settings on that program and try to play a MIDI file to your keyboard with it - FREE MIDI Player. Be aware that you will probably see three entries for the KN7000 in the MIDI settings of the program. Try all three to see whether any of them works.
Also, you might hear what you THINK is a MIDI file playing to your keyboard but it might be playing the Windows MIDI sounds. It will sound very good when it is playing the KN7000 properly and it will not sound so good when it is playing the Windows MIDI sounds. It should be easy to tell the difference. Again, don't have Sonar running because you can only play the KN7000 with one MIDI program at a time, so it will fail if you have Sonar running at the same time.
If it still doesn't play to your KN7000, close the MIDI player and install the Vista MIDI Fix tool and then re-try with the Falcosoft MIDI player.
Let us know how you get on and whether you need more detailed help with any of these steps. We have to do this in small steps because the combination of different PCs and programs isn't all going to work at once, so, in order to help you I need to know that each step is working properly before moving on to the next.

installed the midi player and it plays the file in the keyboard so far so good....

That's great.
I'm just going to read a few things in the Sonar manual because I don't use it and I'll post again shortly.
You're certain that you are hearing the keyboard playing the MIDI, not the keyboard acting as speakers which are playing the Windows MIDI sounds via audio?

I just checked my hardware and sound and the midi is not there just the USB I could not install the midi drivers help

In the Falcosoft MIDI player, go to the MIDI settings (looks like a midi plug) and what is the MIDI Out set to?

midi player device settings under midi out it will only use Microsoft GS wavetable syth it won't let me change it when I do it reverts back to it....I also have something else in settings which is recording source input port hmmmmm different from the one you put up on the link...

OK I'm off for the night. To recap, you need:
MIDI drivers installed correctly
Run the Vista MIDI Fix tool and select the Panasonic Music instrument as the default MIDI device
Then, in Falcosoft Midi player you should be able to select Panasonic Musical Instrument.
When you do that, playing back the MIDI file will sound considerably better than using the Microsoft GS Wavetable synth and you will know that you have MIDI set up correctly in Windows. The we'll be able to look at setting it up in Sonar.

I installed Sonar and started it up with a blank test project.
I set it up as shown in the attachment.
I dragged and dropped a midi file into the MIDI track that Sonar had automatically set up.
This file plays back fine on the KN7000 right away. Can you try the same?
Setting it up to use the full NX soundset in the KN7000 and getting it to play and record self-made files might take a little longer. I have to work on editing the site tonight so I can't test that yet but I'll take another look tomorrow night or Friday night. Let me know if yours plays fine for now and then try some experimenting to see how you get on.

yes I got that far last night trial and error. however I don't see the meters working when I play a midi note from keyboards to sonar.........did you set yours up with just a USB cable or with midi cables as well cause thats what I have set up is midi cables on mine........and also I am curious should I use the thru out in back of keyboard....

Mine is set up with USB cable. I'm glad that yours is with MIDI interface because that will be more reliable in terms of us testing. As you're using a MIDI interface (I asked you about this in my first post) you don't need the KN7000 drivers, most of the above advice is redundant and they are non-operational. So you will see different settings to what I have posted. I assumed that you were using a USB cable because you were trying to download drivers. You don't need the KN7000 drivers if you're using a MIDI interface.
I'll set mine up using my MIDI interface on the weekend and talk you through setting it up with Sonar. If you want to experiment in the meantime you need to do the following:
The KN7000.ins file has to be applied so that you can select NX sounds. Or you can make do with General MIDI sounds for now.
Each MIDI track in Sonar needs to have a KN7000 instrument patch applied to it.
In order to record in Sonar, each MIDI track needs to be receiving on a MIDI channel that is being sent by the KN7000.
This advice is generic, I don't know Sonar well enough to be more specific now but I'll find out on the weekend if you still don't have it working.
