My daughter was playing with different settings of our piano using mode set. She noticed after playing a key the note held for a few seconds after she released it. After this, the keyboard stopped producing sound when the keys were played. The piano turns on fine and the mode set light is lit when pressed, however, no sound comes from any of the keys or the demo.

I have tried turning the instrument on an off again, unplugging it from the wall, and verifying that there also isn't any sound produced when using either of the two headphone jacks.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what might be wrong with the instrument? Is it possible my daughter accidentally changed the local control settings? If so, how do I change this back? Is there a factory reset for this model? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: SX-PC25 No Sound

andreahavron,

Yes it's almost certain that Midi Local Control has been turned off. But hey, these things are there to be played with! She was probably wondering whether there were more demos. Also, Many of the keyboards have one or two hidden features using Mode Set and undocumented keys.

Press and Hold Mode Set and press the uppermost Eb on the piano. That key toggles Local Control on and off. You'll probably hear the beep she mentioned and then all will be back to normal.

The User Manual for Technics PC25 is in the Members Area for download, it describes all the uses of Mode Set.

Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much for your reply. Yes I agree , I've always encouraged my daughter to play and explore the piano. Sadly, I have just signed her up to start piano lessons so I am a bit bummed the instrument is no longer playing!

I've tried your advice but no luck. I even pressed each key individually while holding down the mode set button in case there was another hidden key causing issues. Any advice on what else might be causing the problem? I suppose at this point I just need to contact a repair technician. Do you have any recommendations for repair technicians in Auckland, NZ?

Thanks again for your help!

Re: SX-PC25 No Sound

It just occurred to me that I was testing the headphone sound using my headphones with the standard jack. The headphone jack from the piano looks larger - do I need a 3.5mm to 6.35mm stereo adapter? Now I'm wondering if I inadvertently messed up the headphone jack somehow.
