Hi all, I've recently got hold of a PX6 that has 4 dodgy keys. 3 don't work at all and another doesn't respond to anything but a fairly hard press. Could this be something as simple as dirty contacts? If so does anyone have any tips on getting them cleaned or even cleaning them myself? Anyone got a service manual kicking around that they could share?

Any help much appreciated.

Re: PX6 Piano with some dodgy keys

Hi Jason, The service manual for the PX6 is one of the ones I am still trying to locate, However the type of contacts that Technics generally use are of the silicone membrane type. You also say the one key is hard to push down it is best to check if there are any items that may have fallen into the keyboard keys themselves, also are the faulty keys all together ?
Please come back to me
Regards John
PS. I note you are in the UK where abouts?

Re: PX6 Piano with some dodgy keys

Hi John, thanks for your assistance with this. I seem to have explained myself badly. The fourth key's action is fine but it doesn't make any sound unless you play it fairly hard. The unresponsive keys are actually pretty spread out D#1, F3, B4 (slightly unresponsive one) and G5, i think, though that's from a scrawled note. I'm not in front of it now. That's what made me think it may be the contacts getting clogged up.
I've heard about people using soft graphite pencils and contact cleaner to refresh keys if that's the same type and same problem, obviously youtube is full of tips etc. but I'd rather not take too many risks. I'm in East London by the way
Thanks,

Jason

Right Jason,I have had some thoughts on your problem. We have a very helpful full time Engineer who is in modern terms just around the corner. his name is Dave Tutt.
Here are his details:-
DAVID TUTT Email:- [email protected] and Tel:- 07759105932
He is based in Chatham . He is very well versed with Technics electronic musical instruments, Even that I live in the Midlands and Mike (admin) South Wales. Dave has done superb work for both of us.

Hope this is of help
Regards John.
