Hi my name is linda and I am having some issues with my keyboard of this model (5X-PX336). My friend will be coming onto this board to help and resolve this. His username is (studio). My keyboard shows that it has power but there is no sound.

Re: Model 5X-PX336 (church lady needs help!!!)
Hello Forum,
I'm here to help out Linda as much as I can.
Her Piano resides on the third floor of her building and it's probably way easier for me to try and repair
whatever is ailing this keyboard.
From past experiences, I've come to find that power but no distinguishable sound might come from a failing
"super capacitor" as they will have a certain life span then give up the ghost.
Her piano is in otherwise very good condition, formerly used by a piano teacher who had 3 of the same model.
I am hoping for forum members to bring me some insight as to how to proceed with getting Linda up and running
and playing her music. Thanks in advance.
So, this particular electric piano has two super caps and I measured one of them and it showed nothing, or next to nothing,
But the other one had it's proper value. I forget what that value is right now since it was a few months ago.
However, I guess my first question is if I can correctly measure said component within the circuit or does it have to be removed?
Secondly, if I'm going to replace one super cap, should I replace them both?
Thanks.

Re: Model SX-PX336 (church lady needs help!!!)
So...... I'd like to know how I can help facilitate getting this instrument
up and running for Linda. Would it be beneficial to post some photos
of what we decide to replace or repair?
My first assumption here is if replacing the super cap works, then
my next issue would be to regain the lost or erased sound parameters
in order for the instrument to sound normal. Is that correct?
I am assuming there is a disc or other input to get the sounds back?
If not, does the keyboard retain it's sounds even without keeping the
memory's integrity "charged"? The reason i ask this is because several of
my former Korg synths have had to have batteries replaced and reinsert the
DCO parameters etc.
Is this even an occurrence with these models?
Thanks, and btw, the model number is SX PX 336. not what the title of this thread shows.
Hopefully that can be edited. Thanks.

Re: Model 5X-PX336 (church lady needs help!!!)
Can you check the 5 volt supplies first. If they are present I have a feeling this model has 3.3 volt too. If both are there thats a good start. The supercaps should be replaced as a set as doing one will not prove reliable. All technics keyboards use a simple chopper regulated power supply which needs to be ok before anything else happens. Check that this is okay and let me know.
I don't have the service manual to check on the circuits but think that model has a processor under the keys. This means it has a boot sequence which loads the secondary processors at start up. Sometimes no functions can be a simple as a dirty connector.
If the instrument will run its demo and has a display then sometimes a system reset is worthwhile.
Hope this gives you a starting point.

Re: Model 5X-PX336 (church lady needs help!!!)
Thanks for the quick reply Dave.
I will check on the PS voltages firstly and get back to you.
Also, do you know a supply house where i can purchase the super caps from?
I live in Los Angeles, CA. and as you well know, distribution houses can be here
today, gone tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Re: Model 5X-PX336 (church lady needs help!!!)
The places I tend to use are here in the UK and are most reliable. You might try some of them but as is always the case your import costs might exceed the value of the components themselves. Examples are: RS components. Farnell, and CPC. I use the later just about every day and rarely have any issues. Specialist transistors and the like come from Cricklewood electronics in London again a reliable source.
You will probably find that the supercaps are no longer made in the same case style as the originals but provided the values are the same they will work fine.
Technics keyboards all have similar issues with the power supply on the main voice board. It runs excessively hot and with some 25 years of life they tend to be unpredictable. If you find the 5 volt missing I can give you a list of bits worth changing to bring the thing back to life.
