Hi, I'm new to the site and forums,
I have a wonderful PR902cr in pristine condition and working well. Have sorted midi connections using a Yamaha USB to Midi interface coupled onto my laptop running Windows 10 and cakewalk software.

There is a port on the PR902 for direct conection to a PC, anyone any ideas hints or tips how this works and what cable would be needed?

Many thanks for looking.
Barry

Re: PR902 connections and hints

HI Barry,

You'll find it almost impossible to get the correct cable for the PC connection these days. If we knew the connectors and wired connections we would get some made - i.e. if we could get hold of one - however, there is very little benefit to having one, transferring information to the keyboard with it is extremely slow and would require you to have a Windows XP or earlier PC. The midi capabilities are exactly the same as the interface you're using. The interface is probably much more reliable.

The interface allows you to send midis and styles to and from the PR. Both of these are faster using floppy disks.

Best wishes,
Mike

Many thanks, it was just a simple 'it's there, is it any use' I'll stick to my trusty midi interface and as soon as my USB floppy drive arrives I'll be using the trusty plastic spinny things again.

Re: PR902 connections and hints

Hi Barrye -

I bought one of these cables when I purchased my PR902CR in 2001. The Technics accessory cable is a Matsushita (Matshita Panasonic) SZ-JJAT1. It has a male din connector on the instrument end and a female serial connector on the PC end. It came with a 2HD drivers disk for Windows 3.1/Windows 95 and an instruction manual for installing the software. Ultimately, I ended up using the standard midi in/out connectors on the PR902CR to my Motu MIDI Express XT, where I route all of my midi in/outs with a single USB interface to my Windows 10 PC running Cakewalk Sonar X3.

Thanks Rob, I have gone the same way, MIDI through a USB connector.
Download works great though I don't get any entries back into my Cakewalk suite. MIDI monitor shows the midi input signal.
Probably a Windows 10 issue, I'll keep on going until I crack it.

Hi uncletedbeckley, sorry I didn't have that connector only the Yamaha midi interface. It was rgdrummond who had the Yamaha item.
