I recently aquired an old PR 270, everything works fine .....except for the floppy drive.......looks like a common problem with these.
i have tried everything i can think of to do with the drive but it always comes up with :-......error/no disk.
The user manual is no help iether.
So now I am thinking of fitting one of the FD to USB emulators..............
So the question is.....has anyone allready done this on a PR 270 and if so, was it ok ?

Re: PR-270 fd drive problem

Hi, I remember back in the day I was a Technics Dealer the PR270 came with the disk drive fitted although this is based on the SY FD20 unit as fitted to a number of units, organs, keyboards etc. this was fitted when the Drive was an option. This does cause somewhat of a problem when fitting an Emulator, the comparable Keyboad of the time was the KN2000 These units first of all require DD type of disks and not HD and also they use a 24 pin connector and not the standard 34 pin connector as used on emulators and standard computer 3.5" drives. At the moment I am talking to a firm in Germany who make adapters for KN keyboards to fit emulators/modern drives in instruments like yours. It is early days at the moment as people are just starting to ask the questions about retro fitting Emulators.
My thoughts regarding your fitted drive at the moment would be extract the unit and clean the contacts on the drive plugin connector these can tarnish so that may help and as i said earlier you need to use DD type disks again I recommend you use a disk cleaning disk as this can be needed if the previous owner had not used the drive very much or it came from a smokey environment.as this can leave a film on the read/write heads, you might have to use the cleaner more tan once to remove the dirt.
Mike or I will post as soon as I have news regarding fitting an Emulator to a PR piano all models !!
Best regards John
