I just haven't mastered how to connect my kn7 to my laptop so I tried to cheat by downloading free files from this site onto an SD card and guess what....it didn't work. The file appeared empty on the keyboard. ( yes, of course I'm thick...but inventive!!!) I have asked my computer whizz grandson to get the connection happening for me but I'm on his waiting list ! It's such a shame that I can't take advantage of all you have to offer but I'm sure the time will come and there will be no stopping me !! Thanks for running this site it means such a lot.

Re: Im missing out big time
Hello Mel, Thank you so much for the kind words, I can sense your enthusiasm and it means a lot to me. Secretly, this site is all about two things... one is revitalising my own enthusiasm for music and my KN7000 and the other is helping all the members to feel enthusiastic by sharing information, files, music and a bit of fun!
Anyway. The 'time' you mention has come. And there is nothing 'cheating' about what you're attempting... I've just pulled a very long shift in work so I'm going to give you some pointers to get you up and running straight away and we can discuss further anytime you like. It's great that you have your whizz grandson to help too (my son helps me all the time), so I'm going to get straight to the point and be as brief as I can.
1 - For getting files onto your keyboard forget about linking it to your laptop. Moving files that way is very slow and frustration plus it will only work if you have an old version of windows, so don't waste your time.
2 - The best and quickest way to get files onto your keyboard is by using KN-SDExplorer and an SD Card. The demo version of the program does everything you need quickly and easily. it is free and it does not expire. You only need to buy it if you enjoy using it and you want to move lots of files at once. The program deals with naming files and putting them in the correct place on your SD card. The only place you have gone wrong is that you don't know where to put the files on your SD Card and KN-SDExplorer will deal with that. So, follow the link, install the program and read how to transfer the files on the website - http://software.technicskn7000.com/
3 - Read the articles about putting files onto your KN7000 on this website - http://kn7000.co.uk/
4 - Look around the sites and download files to transfer to your KN7000. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of 'Songs' (Styles) and 'Sounds' (Instruments) here for you to use. They are dotted around the sites in (hopefully) logical places but they are also centralised in the Members Only pages (Your Profile). Log in and then click on your username to get to that area.
NB - You are already a member of all of these websites, they have a shared membership, so you can log in to any of them using the same login details.
5 - If using an SD card is confusing for you at first then you can just drag the files onto a floppy disk and load them on the KN7000 from that floppy. If your computer doesn't have a floppy drive they are very inexpensive to buy on Amazon - 3.5" USB Floppy Disk Drive 1.44Mb, Black - this link is to the floppy drive I use, it is compatible with all versions of Windows, I use Windows 8.1
Let us know how you get on!
Happy playing,
Mike

Re: Im missing out big time
Hi Mike. Thanks for your help and advise. I had a some-what hasty try with the software but it gave me a little fright because when I put the card in the kn7 it showed all folders empty! Thank goodness I had backed up the card on the laptop so all is now well. I didn't want to risk my luck a second time and decided to buy a second SD card just for playing around with downloads. Before I attempt to use this new card I want to check that 2GB is okay. My first card is a 2GB and works fine when I save from the keyboard...but you never know. I can also try loading via the floppy (soon as life spares me 5 mins ) but the ultimate is cracking the SD scenario.
Lastly, you said the software demo won't expire. I think it told me to get lost after I'd taken one too many actions so I uninstalled it and will start from scratch again as soon as I hear from you on the above. If I ever get to grips with this I will probably just buy the software so it's always there. Cheers.

Re: Im missing out big time
No problem, here are a few pointers:
The KN7000 will recognise some 2Gb cards but it can only address 1Gb of the card as it is intended for 1Gb max. The card has to be SD Secure, nothing fancy like SDHC or other types of card. When the KN7000 came out 1Gb SD cards were considered to be absolutely huge and cost hundreds of pounds / dollars. 1GB can hold 99 folders with 20 songs in each plus hundreds of custom styles, MIDIs and SD Audios.
One of my cards is 2Gb and works fine but as I say it shows up as 1Gb. Every time I put it in my PC I'm told there is an error with it, which I ignore, and it hasn't given me problems other than annoying the OCD side of me!
Before doing anything with an SD card you must format it in the KN7000. I suggest that you then save a file to it from the KN7000, anything, you can delete it later but saving something from the KN7000 creates the required folders on the card and seems to make things simpler, for me anyway.
I have quite a few cards because it helps me to keep organised (which is not my normal state of affairs).
If you want to ensure compatibility, I have recommended appropriate cards in the Shop - KN7000 SD Cards CLICK HERE - There are Shops for USA and Europe and you don't buy from me, you purchase direct from Amazon (I get a small commission from Amazon that goes towards running the websites, whether you buy an SD Card or some coffee beans). These are the same SD Cards that I use.
The KN-SDExplorer software demo doesn't expire but it only lets you work with one song at a time. If you got an error you probably tried to put two or more songs on the card or move two or more songs from one directory to another. I think that's pretty generous on the part of the programmers (I didn't program it but I'm now a partner). It's good for people who only work with a few Songs and for those who want to work with ten at a time, or even more, it is well worth the upgrade price as it saves so much time. Using the software soon becomes second nature and makes dealing with your SOngs a pleasure instead of a chore.
It is also good to work through the tutorials on the website. When I first purchased the software many years ago I didn't do that and came back to it after a year or so only to realise how powerful it actually is, I had missed a lot of features.
If you need more help ask away.
Best wishes,
Mike

That's good to know Mel just ask if you need more assistance or ideas. We're working on a program update at the moment which will be available free to existing owners when it is finalised. This will be a maintenance update to improve it in Windows 7 & 8 and add some small new functions.
