Hi, I have posted this in Kn 6500 but the layout must be similar to other keyboards
I wish to change the floppy disc drive in my Kn6500. I have remove the front trim and the securing screws on the underside. The drive is loose but appears to be restricted by what appear to be the wiring.. Could someone please tell me what else I need to remove to access this. Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Help needed with Floppy Disc drive

Hi as is the norm to gain access to things like the disc drive you will need to split the instrument top from the bottom, being careful about the wiring between to and bottom Best not to disconnect, just prop the top section up at 90 degrees to the bottom, this will let you gain access to the drive and it's wiring , what is the reason for removal?

Re: Help needed with Floppy Disc drive

Hi
Thanks for your help. I am at the moment I am waiting for the replacement. I think that efforts have been made to remove this before, as it seems a bit battered
It started by going to disc format as soon as I clicked on Disc drive. It then finished up that there is a disc stuck fast in the drive. I am hoping to obtain one from Mike Barden as they are listed on his website. At the moment he is under the weather with a bug or something but I hope to follow this up on Monday.
I will post my experiences after I have received the spare. Thanks again, Regards Carper26

Re: Help needed with Floppy Disc drive

Hi Carper26, just out of interest what disc drive is fitted,ie:- make and model ? there were a few different drives fitted as to what was instock at the time Technics built the unit, you would think the units would be :- National, Alps or Panasonic, but some times Sony or even some obscure Chinese make. A lot of people insist these drives are very special and are not interchangeable with standard computer drives.that is not the case even going back to the KN800/1000 which used the Technics SY FD20 unitwhich contained a standard 3.1/2" drive in a custom outer case which had a special PCB edge plugin board adapter which as a Dealer I had to charge the customer a small fortune. It was the early days of such things being fitted to musical instruments and even the engineers where told not servicable part just replace and return old unit to manufacturer. now I know they just changed the drive for about £10. and return the unit to resell for £200+.
Regards John.

Re: Help needed with Floppy Disc drive

Hi, Thanks for your further input. At this stage I have no idea what make the drive is as I don't want to remove it twice and am waiting for replacement.
The service manual I have is for the Kn600 which I assume is virtually the same as for the Kn6500.
The tip about not removing any wiring for the keyboard would appear to be very valid.
When removing the keyboard, is it necessary to remove all the base panels and and then turn it over to lift the keyboard. I note that there are 17 screws securing the base panels. I am a novice at this so any tips at all which you can give would be greatly appreciated.. I note that you are a UK member. Are you near Manchester by any chance?
A further interest would be whether it would be possible to fit a computer floppy disc adapter to create an SD card reader and a USB2 port such as the card reader for which I attach a scan of the packing box. There are of course more connections on the keyboard disc drive than the connections on the card reader. It would be an interesting project.
Incidentally my Keyboard is already fitted with an extra internal Hard Drive HDSX6 which I didn't find for some time after buying the keyboard.
Thanks for your interest Regards Carper26 PS not sure if the attachments are complete
