A general rambling comment

Hi All,

Quite a lot of the administration of the site is in hidden work, such as backing up the site, preforming maintenance updates and correcting errors. Websites are complicated animals and we have over 4000 pages now, things go wrong occasionally. Just this week some of our menus disappeared for no apparent reason and I had to rebuild them.

One of the things I do is to check every signup. I'm interested to see what people write in their signup profile but I'm also checking for nuisance signups (they happen all the time). For instance, ok, we're all Technics keyboard fans but can you imagine anyone owning every model (well, maybe me if I win the lottery someday)? Some signups tick every box to say that they own all the models. Others tick random ones and it is quite easy to see that they wouldn't own those particular instruments at the same time (they always don't want to receive private messages and have some bizarre email address.

But the ones that really bemuse (and irritate) me are those who fill in the profile such that it is evident they own the instrument and WANT to be a Member... but their username is an expletive. What are they thinking?! This is not a case of tomatoes and tomaatoes folks, I work on a building site, I've heard it all before but is this really the place to encounter shocking words and behaviour?

So I think... "let's call their whole thing off"... I just delete the account without any correspondence, we don't welcome such ignorance here But what a waste of time!
